Description

What is it?

The ID card is an official photo identification document. In Austria, it also serves as a travel document within most of Europe.

Who needs it?

All Austrian citizens above the age of 14 are required to carry an ID card or a passport. If you are residing in Austria, regardless of nationality, you are legally required to possess an acceptable form of identification.

Procedure

  1. Find your district’s city hall (Bürgeramt) or municipality office to apply in person.
  2. Fill the application form for an Austrian ID Card.
  3. Provide all the required documents (See ‘Required Documents’ below).
  4. Pay the application fee.
  5. Your picture and signature will be taken for the ID card.
  6. You’ll be notified when the ID card is ready for collection.
