What is it?

Health insurance is a type of coverage that pays for medical and surgical expenses incurred by the insured. It can either reimburse the insured for expenses incurred from illness or injury, or pay the care provider directly.

Who needs it?

Anyone living in Bulgaria, especially expatriates, foreign students, digital nomads, freelancers and those who don’t have health insurance coverage from their home country or who are not covered by the Bulgarian National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

Procedure

  1. Determine the health insurance cover you need. You should consider factors such as cost, package of services, network of hospitals, etc.
  2. Browse through the websites of different insurance companies and read up on their insurance policies.
  3. Request and fill out the Health Questionnaire given by the insurance companies.
  4. Submit the completed form and you will receive an offer for insurance coverage.
  5. Upon agreement, you will need to pay the premium to finalize the insurance contract.
