What is it?

Residence registration is a procedure required for EU citizens who plan to stay in the Czech Republic for a period exceeding 30 days. It incorporates the process of registering your place of residence with the Ministry of the Interior, Foreign Police Department, and obtaining a temporary residence certificate.

Who needs it?

EU citizens who are planning to live, work, or study in the Czech Republic for more than 30 days, but do not intend to become permanent residents.

Procedure

  1. Apply for your temporary residence certificate at the Ministry of the Interior, Foreign Police Department. You can fill out the application form here .

  2. After receiving your residence certificate, register your place of residence.

  3. Following successful registration, you will be eligible for benefits, such as parking permits and health insurance coverage.

  • A valid ID or passport
  • Two photographs
  • Proof of employment or study (Contract or acceptance letter from university)

Additional details

  • The temporary residence certificate is not the same as a residence permit. The residence certificate confirms your right as an EU citizen to stay in the Czech Republic for more than 30 days; however, it does not grant you the status of a resident.
  • If you plan to stay in the Czech Republic for a period exceeding 5 years, you are entitled to apply for a permanent residence permit.
  • The health insurance coverage is available to all registered citizens, regardless of their employment status.
  • You will be entitled to a parking permit once you have registered your residence.
  • Keep in mind that all documents should be translated into Czech by a certified translator.
