What is it?

A temporary license plate, also known as a “Zulassungsstelle”, is a short-term registration which allows individuals to operate a vehicle while waiting for permanent license plates.

Who needs it?

It is ideal for individuals who have recently purchased a vehicle and are waiting for their official license plates or individuals who are importing a car and need to navigate the registration process.

Procedure

Go to your local registration office (Zulassungsbehörde), which can be found by searching for “Kfz-Zulassungsstelle” followed by the name of your city.
Present your documents - including proof of insurance, vehicle title, and your identification.
Pay the fee as prescribed.
After receiving the temporary plates, attach them to your vehicle.
