What is it?

It is a procedure to obtain a Greek passport, an essential travel document for Greek citizens who wish to travel outside the country, which also serves as proof of citizenship.

Who needs it?

This service is required by Greek citizens intending to travel internationally and needing official government identification.

Procedure

  1. First, prepare all necessary documents (see the required documents below).
  2. After preparing all documents, approach a Greek police department’s Aliens and Immigration Service to submit your application. Ensure to do this in person, as they would not accept mailed applications.
  3. Pay the prescribed fee for passport issuance.
  4. After a period of time, usually around five days, you can collect your new passport from the same Aliens and Immigration Service department.

Required Documents

  1. Two recent color photographs.
  2. Valid identification card.
  3. Birth certificate indicating both parents’ names
  4. Certificate of citizenship
  5. Other documents like marriage certificate, adoption papers, etc., if applicable

(note: these documents need to be translated into Greek if they are in foreign languages. It’s recommended to keep copies of all documents for reference)

Additional details

Express issuance is also possible under specific circumstances, for an additional fee. For those below 14 years of age, the presence of a parent or legal guardian is required during the application process. In case the person is an unmarried minor aged between 14 to 18 years, a notarized consent of the parents is required. Keep in mind that Greek passports have a validity of 5 years for those under the age of 14 and a validity of 10 years otherwise.
