What is it?

A Slovak Identity Card (also known as Občiansky preukaz) is a public document issued by the Slovak government to its citizens for identification purposes. The card contains personal details including full name, date of birth, birth number, nationality, residence, and photo.

Who needs it?

Every citizen of Slovakia aged 15 years and above is required to have an ID card. It also serves as a document for traveling within the European Union.

Procedure

  1. Submit an application at your local Municipal Office (Miestny úrad). Individuals aged 15 or over must personally apply for the ID card.
  2. Provide a recent photograph that meets the required standard.
  3. Present the necessary documents including proof of identity and residence.
  4. Pay the administration fee.
  5. You will be notified once the ID card is ready. You should personally collect your ID card at the Municipal Office where you applied.
